Formerly known as Suan Nong Saeng, it is a naturally occurring place; in the middle, there is a small island. There are many light trees in the area.
In 1987, the province and Nakhon Phanom municipality had excavated and refurbished the place on the occasion of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej's 5th birthday for the prosperity of Nakhon Phanom people and to honor His Majesty Therefore, they asked the King for a new name as "Suan Luang Rama IX" to use as a place for recreation of the people.
